About Earlobe Repair
Torn earlobes are very common and can be the result of trauma (i.e. a physical accident that pulled an earring through the skin), chronic tension from heavy earrings, or unknown. Sometimes the earlobe can be disfigured from a piercing that develops a large scar/keloid as well. For both of these conditions, the best treatment is to remove the abnormal skin (either the torn section or the scar tissue) and stitch the skin back together to recreate a normal earlobe shape/contour. Usually, you have stitches that stay in for 1 week and then you must allow the skin to heal for a total of 6 weeks before re-piercing the earlobe. For some patients, filler can be used to rejuvenate the earlobe after the earlobe is completely healed.
